Urban Economy and Role of the Town

The town serves as administration, commerce and transport center. There are seven manufacturing industry which created jobs for 3633 employees. There are 2991 unemployed people in the town. The average annual revenue of the municipality was 10,354,450 Birr, while the per capita revenue was 113.6 Birr. The major sources of revenues were land lease, rent of land, service charges, business and profit taxes, registration and license fees. The major investment opportunities in the town are: tourism (eco-tourism), hotel, transport and urban agriculture. Adwa has economic linkages with the surrounding areas, towns, region and Addis Ababa. The town gets grain products from surrounding areas, and agricultural inputs manufacturing and commercial products from the town itself.

Social services

Education

There are ten private kindergartens; five government and four private primary schools; eight private and one government junior secondary schools; six high schools including preparatory; one government and four private TVET and one government  college in Adwa town. 

Health

Regarding health services in the town, there are one hospital, two health centers and fourteen health posts.

Municipal services

Adwa town has meeting hall, public library, ambulance, abattoir; a general and cattle markets. Solid waste in the town is collected using one dump truck and disposed in open dump. Three micro and small enterprises are engaged in solid waste collection while per-capita waste generation is 0.27kg /person /day. Liquid waste is collected using rental vacuum truck while 11 public toilets are available in the town. There is 51 hectar forest and street trees are also planted along 4 Km road. Three play grounds, five semi standard hotels and one stadium exist in the town. Regarding religious services there are nine churches for Orthodox Christians, two churches for Protestants and five mosques for Muslims in the town.
