4.1 Urban Economy and Status of the Town
The town serves as zone and woreda administration, tourism, store, industry and trade center. There are 50 manufacturing industries, 128 wholesales; 630 retail trades; 684 service giving organizations; three fuel stations and 11 garages in the town. There are also five banks and two micro financial institutions in the town. The average annual revenue of the municipality within the 2010–2012 periods was 5,885,750.57 Birr and the major sources of revenue were land related taxes.
Hosaina has economic linkages with the surrounding areas and cities. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood, charcoal), surplus labor and construction materials from surrounding areas and agricultural inputs from Gambora, Lisana as well as manufacturing and commercial products and some construction materials from the town itself while the town serves as tourism, financial institution and market center for other areas.

Social Services
Education
There are 19 private kindergartens; seven government and 17 private primary schools; two government and two private secondary schools; one government preparatory school; one government TVET; six government and two private colleges and one university in the town.
Health
Regarding health services, there are five clinics, three government health centers, one hospital and are three pharmacies in the town.
Municipal Services
Hosaina town has a public meeting hall, abattoir, a general market meeting twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, two daily markets and municipal cemetery. Solid waste is collected with horse-druwn carts and dumped in open waste disposal site., giving waste collection services. There are two public toilets in the ton while the liquid waste generated is collected by vacuum truck rented from other towns and disposed in the prepared site. Regarding religious services, there are five churches for Orthodox, 31 for Protestant, four for Catholic and three Mosques in the town.
