Urban Economy and Role of the Town

The town serves as administration, commerce and transport center. There are 141 manufacturing, 210 wholesale trades, 2221 retail trades, 442 service trades, four fuel stations, 20 garages and other firms in the town. All firms registered a capital of 298,870,697.49 Birr. Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Construction and Business Bank, Dashen Bank, Ethiopia Insurance Corporation, Wegagen Bank, Anbessa International Bank and Dedebit Micro Finance are financial institution in the town. Shire Endaselassie has economic linkages with the surrounding areas, towns, region and Addis Ababa. The town gets grain products and fruits from Gojam, Humera and Tekeze while oil, soap and sugar are obtained from Addis Ababa.

Social Services

Education

There are one government and eight kindergartens; two government and one primary schools; three private and seven government junior secondary  schools and four high schools including preparatory in Shire Endaselassie town. The student teacher ratio was known to be 1:40 for kindergartens, 1:35 for primary school and 1:30 for junior secondary school. Senior secondary school has 1:30 students to teacher ratio. On the other hand; the student to class room ratio was 1:40 for kindergartens, 1:50 for primary school, 1:50 junior secondary and 1.53 for senior secondary school. 

Health

Regarding health services in the town, there are one government hospital, two health centers and five private clinics. There are three health officers 114 nurses and ten other health professionals giving service in health facilities.

Municipal services

Shire Endaselassie town has meeting hall, municipal cemetery, abattoir, general, cattle and daily markets. Solid waste in the town is collected using one dump truck and disposed in open dump. There are seven public toilets in the town. There is 29.5 ha proposed urban greenery and 325.48 ha forest.
