1.1 Location

Ambo town is located in the central part of Ethiopia in Oromia National Regional State, Ambo wereda at a distance of 114 km from Addis Ababa.  

1.2 Foundation

Ambo town was founded in 1874 and got municipal status in 1916. Ambo is one of the reform towns in the region and has a city administration, municipality and kebeles. The town is categorized in 2B currently.
