4.1 Urban Economy and Status of the Town
The town serves as administration and trade center. The annual revenue of the municipality in 2009 is 6,165,090.99 Birr while its expenditure in the same year was 8,151,052.39. The major sources of revenue were taxes, rent and service charges. Ambo has economic linkages with the surrounding areas and towns in the region. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood, charcoal) from surrounding areas.

Education
There are 11 private kindergartens; 25 primary schools; one senior secondary school, one preparatory, two TVETs and three colleges and 1 university in the town.
Health
Regarding health services in the town there are one hospital, two health centers, 18 clinics, two health posts and 10 pharmacies.
Municipal Services
Ambo town has public meeting halls, abattoir, a general and cattle markets. There are green areas and sport fields.
