4.1 Urban Economy and Role of the Town
Bonga is administration and trade center. In the town there are 12 dry coffee and 6 wet coffee processing plants, 10 hotels, 6 groceries, 12 restaurants, 10 cafes, 13 retail shops, 7 boutiques, 22 grain trades, 4 construction materials shop, 12 butcheries, 2 flour factories, 13 grain mills, and associations engaged in 14 wood and metal workshops, one Hollow Concrete Block production, and two in wood works. There are one government and one private bank and one Omo micro finance giving services in the town. The average annual revenue of the municipality in 2007-2011 was 4,484,852.90 Birr. Bonga town has economic linkages with the surrounding areas and Addis Ababa. The town gets coffee, honey, grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood and charcoal), and labor from surrounding areas manufactured and commercial products from Addis Ababa.

Education
In the town there are 6 kindergarten, 6 primary schools and one secondary school, one teachers education college, one technical and vocational college.
Health Services
In the town there are one government hospital, health center, three private clinics and one private pharmacy, one diagnostic laboratory, five private diagnostic services. In addition Red Cross has opened branch office in the town and there is one ambulance giving service for residents in the town.
Municipal services
Bonga town does not have sufficient green areas. Regarding youth center
buildings for this purpose were built in two locations but they are starting to
give service. Solid waste is collected using donkey drown carts, collection
containers, and car.
