According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007 by Central Statistical Authority (CSA), the population of the town was 74,879.  Out of this 39,208 (52%) were males and 35,671 (48%) were females, 25,977 (35%) were within the age group of 0-15 years, 47,659 (64%)  within 16-60 years, and 1,243 (1 %)  are within the age of 60 years and above. The population growth rate at medium variant is 3.1% while household size in the town is calculated to be 4.3.
