The built up area of Aksum town is 1,727.69 ha and it has an oval shape. Its

altitude is 2000–3000m above sea level; mean annual temperature of 14ºC-

20ºC; mean annual rainfall of 763mm and the prevailing wind direction is from

northeast to west. The principal natural constraints for the physical expansion

of the town is hilly and steep slope in the northern part and manmade

constraint is that most of the town’s land area is reserved as historical area.
