1.1 Location
Aksum is located in Northern part of Ethiopia in Tigray National Regional State, Tigray Central Zone at a distance of 1004 km from Addis Ababa and 248 km from Mekele the regional capital. Its astronomical location is 14º North Latitude and 38º31’East Longitude.
1.2 Foundation
The city was founded in the 1st Century.
Aksum is one of the reform towns in the region and it has a city administration, municipality and four kebelles. The town has Integrated Development Plan which was prepared in 2001.
