1. GENERAL BACKGROUND

1.1 Location

Bulen  town is located in Benishangul Gumuz Regional State, Metekel Zone, Bulen wereda at a distance of 580 kms from Addis Ababa and 254 km from Assosa town, capital of the regional state.

1.2 Foundation

Bulen town was founded in 1947.

1.3 Population

According to the Central Statistical Authority projection, in 2011, the population of the town was 9255. Out of this, 4601 (49.7%) were males and 4654 (50.3%) were females. 3471 (37.5%) were within the age group of 0-14 years, 5395 (58.3%) within 15-59 years and 389 (4.2%) 60 years and above. The average household size in the town is calculated to be 4.2 in the same period.
