5.1 Infrastructure
Regarding infrastructure, the town has asphalt and gravel roads connecting it to different woreda, zone, region and Addis Ababa. The distribution of roads as per the type of construction materials shows that 40.57km are gravel, 9.446km asphalt, 3.284km cobblestone, and 317km compacted earth roads. The town gets 24 hours electric supply from the national grid and has mobile and fixed telephone lines, internet services, and a postal service. The main water supply sources of the town are spring and ground water distributed through pipe system. The town has open ditches to discharge storm water.
5.2 Housing
There are 23,263 private and government owned houses built of different materials in Jijiga town. The dominant construction materials for the house are blocket and mud.
5.3 Transport
There is daily inter-urban transport service to and from Dire Dawa, Harar, Babile, Qebirbeya, Wuchale, Chinaksen. There is air transport service to and from Addis Ababa and other towns. The town has a bus station and airport. 2000 Bajaj taxis and 380 horse-drawn carts are give intra-urban transportation service in Jijiga town.
