1.1 Location

Jijiga is located in Eastern Ethiopia, Somali Regional State at the distance of 628km from Addis Ababa. Its astronomical location is 9°20´N latitude and 42°56’E longitude.

1.2 Foundation

The town was founded in 1894. Jijiga is one of the reform towns in the region and has a city administration consisting kebelles. The town has a structure plan which was prepared in 2011.
