The built up area of Jijiga town is 7000 ha and it has compact shape. Its

altitude is 1620-1775m.Above sea level. It has a mean annual temperature of

17°c to 21.50°c and mean annual rainfall of 598 mm. The prevailing wind direction

is Southerly winds in September while southwest winds during summer season

(from June to August). The principal natural constraints for the physical expansion

of the town are adjacent wetland areas in the south and southeast directions

along Biribiris and Toga streams (including Elbahiy and Biyeda streams) while the

manmade constraints are high tension lines, and military camps.
