4.1 Urban Economy and Status of the Town

The town serves as zone and wereda administration and trade center. There are three manufacturing industries, 1 wholesale trade, 86 retail trades, two fuel stations, two garages and one government bank in the town. The average annual revenue of the municipality is 518,162 Birr and the major sources of revenue were taxes, rent and service charges. Yabelo has economic linkages with the surrounding areas and towns in the region. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood, charcoal) from surrounding areas.

Education

There are two private kindergartens; two government and one private primary schools; three government junior secondary schools, one senior secondary school including preparatory and one government college in the town. 

Health

Regarding health services in the town there are three private and three government clinics and one government health center.

Municipal Services

Yabelo town has public meeting halls, abattoir, a general and cattle markets and 2 daily markets. There are green areas covering 4.9% of the town, three sport fields and street trees planted along streets. Regarding religious services there are two churches for Orthodox Christians, 12 churches for Protestants, one church for Catholics and four mosques.
