According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the city was 220,212. Out of this 108,872 (49.4%) were male and 111,340 (50.6%) females. Regarding age distribution 67002 (30.4%) are within the age group of 0-15 years, 146,226 (66.4%) within 16-60 years and 6984 (3.2%) above 60 years. The average household size in the city is calculated to be 3.6.
