 Urban Economy and Role of the Town

The town mainly serves as a regional administration and trade center. There are 64 manufacturing industries, one wholesale trade, four fuel stations and five garages in the town. There are four different banks giving service in the town. 

The average annual revenue of the municipality within the 2000-2004 was 758,689.00 Birr. The major sources of revenue were service charges, fees, land rents, land allotment, building taxes, taxes from livestock trade, transport, road and markets.The major investment opportunities in the town are: mining, hotel and tourism development, fatting and educational services.

Asossa town has economic linkages with the surrounding areas, Gibe, Nekemte and Nejo and mostly Addis Ababa. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood and charcoal) and labor from surrounding areas manufacturing and commercial products from Addis Ababa Nekemte Gimbi and Nejo.
