The area of Butajira town is 1854.24 ha and its shape is oval. Its altitude is 1850 – 2150m above sea level.

The mean annual temperature 18.7ºC; mean annual rainfall is 1267.07mm and the prevailing wind

direction is  Mainly from northeast to southwest (Northeast). The principal natural constraints for the

physical expansion of the town are flooding and the gorges along Ernzaf and Erisha Rivers.
