4.1 Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town mainly serves as woreda administration and trade center. There are 160 wholesale trades, 1000 retail trades, 362 service trades, three fuel stations and one garage. There are five different banks in the town.
The average annual revenue of the municipality in 2009 was 6.3 million Birr. The total expenditure of the municipality was 4.6 million Birr, out of which 1.4 million Birr was capital expenditure. The per capita revenue in the same year was 101.5 Birr. Major sources of revenues were land rent, lease, taxes and service charges. The major investment opportunities in the town are: agro industry, agriculture, trade, hotel and tourism.Arsi-Negelle town has economic linkages with the surrounding areas, Addis Ababa and Adama. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood and charcoal) and labor from surrounding, areas manufacturing commercial products from Addis Ababa and Adama.

Social services
Education
There are 19 privately owned kindergartens; three government and 14 private primary schools; three government and ten private junior ásecondary (1-8 grade) schools; one government and two private senior secondary (9-10 grade) schools and one government TVET in the town.
Health
Regarding health services the town has one government health centers and nine private clinics,
one pharmacy and ambulance that gives service for emergency cases.
Municipal services
Arsi-Negelle town has a public meeting hall; abattoir service for both Christians and Muslims, a general market meeting three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, a cattle market meeting once a week on Fridays and three daily markets.
Solid waste is collected using ten horse drown carts and disposed in authorized open dump site. There are four public toilets in the town, and liquid in the town is collected by vacuum trucks rented from other towns. One Micro and Small-scale Enterprise association is engaged in collection of solid waste.
Recently 1950 trees were planted in the town. Trees were also planted along 2 km of streets. There is a park, one playground and one stadium and three modern hotels in the town. Regarding religious services there are seven churches for Orthodox Christians, ten churches for Protestants and nine mosques in the town.
