According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the town was  62,063. Out of this 30,716 (49%) were males and 31,347 (51%) females.  Regarding age distribution 25,173 (40%) were within the age group of 0-17 years, 37,371 (59%) 18-60 years, and 968 (1%) within 60 years and above. The average household size in the town was calculated to be 5.
