According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the town was 193,984. Out of this 96,877 (50%) were males and 97,107 (50%) were females. Regarding the age distribution 77,098 (39.8%) were within the age group of 0-15 years, 112,970 (58.2%) 16-60 years, and 3,916 (2%) 61 years and above.  The average household size is calculated to be 5.4, while the population growth rate at high, medium and low variants are 5, 4, and 3% respectively.
