Establishment of the city
Name of the town was derived from the then prominent resident of the village called “Mochena Borago Soddo”. Wolaita Soddo City was found in 1894 during the conquest of Atse Minlik to ward south of the capital. Wolaita soddo is one of the oldest and fast growing cities in SNNPRG. The town develops in to an important urban center following large scale formal settlement started from the establishment of the town. Many Ethiopian urban centers (towns) involved on high lands to protect themselves to diseases and strategic places to depend themselves from the enemy. This is true for the back ground history of the establishment of Wolaita soddo.
