Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town is agriculture and commercial center. There are two manufacturing industries; 200 retail trades; nine service trades and one garage in the town. According to CSA 2007, economic activity rate in the town was 58%. One financial institution i.e. Benishangul Gumuz Credit Association is found in the town.

In 2012 the annual revenue of the municipality was 250‚000 Birr and the major sources of revenue were property tax, income tax and land lease. The major investment opportunities in the town are: agro-industry processing, hotels, trade and housing development.

Almu Felege selam has economic linkages with the surrounding areas, Bahirdar and Addis Ababa. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood, charcoal), construction materials, surplus labor and financial institution from surrounding areas and the town itself while agricultural inputs, manufacturing and commercial products from Assosa, Bahir Dar, and Addis Ababa.
