PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TOWN
The area of Gilgal Beles town is 358 ha and has linear or elongated shape. Its altitude is 1030-1100m above sea level and 82% of the town is plain; the mean annual temperature of the town is 35ºC and Mean Annual Rainfall is 950mm. The major soil type in the town is black cotton soil. The prevailing wind direction of the town is northeast to southwest.

The major natural constraints affecting the future development of the town are rugged terrain and flooding while the manmade constraints are the existence of urban-rural border conflict and shortage of compensation money for land.
