Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town is trade and administration center. There is one manufacturing and one wholesale trade in the town. There are three financial institutions: one Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and two private banks in the town.
The average annual revenue of the municipality was 8.4 million birr and the major sources of revenue were land use tax, advertisement tax and different service charges. The major investment opportunity in the town is poultry.
Shiraro has economic linkages with the surrounding areas, Humera and Shire. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood, charcoal), construction materials, surplus labor and financial institution from surrounding areas and the town itself while agricultural inputs, manufacturing and commercial products are obtained from Humera and Shire.
