   Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town is trade and wereda administration center. There are eight financial institutions in the town.

The average annual revenue of the municipality was 10,591,394 and the major sources of revenue were: - land use tax, advertisement tax and different service charges. The major investment opportunities in the town are Sesame production.

Humera has economic linkages with the surrounding areas, Gondar and Mekele. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood, charcoal), construction materials, surplus labor and financial institution from surrounding areas and the town itself while agricultural inputs, manufacturing and commercial products from Gondar and Mekele towns.
