Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town is center of production and agro processing of Ground nut and Sesame. There are seven manufacturing industries; two wholesale trades; 196 service trades and 72 other businesses in the town. According to CSA 2007, the economic activity in town was 57.5 % and unemployment was 31.7%. Benshangul Gumuz Credit Association and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia give financial services in the town.
The annual revenue of the municipality in 2012 was 400‚000 Birr, and the major sources of revenue were land lease, tax‚ property tax, income tax and advertisement. The major investment opportunities in the town are: - agro-industry processing, construction industry, hotels and tourism.
Mambuk has economic linkages with the surrounding areas Bahirdar and Addis Ababa. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood, charcoal), construction materials, surplus labor and financial institution from Dangur and Guba and agricultural inputs, manufacturing and commercial products from Bahirdar and Addis Ababa.
