Bishoptu, January 14, 2018 (Kemlimi) Ethiopia launches historic cities resource mobilization program to accelerate the transformation journey of cities
In order to realize the vision of building a prosperous Ethiopia, the Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Big Win Philanthropy, an international organization, for the Ethiopia Cities Resourcing Track.
In conjunction with this, the Ethiopia Cities Resourcing Track has been launched.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Urban Development and Infrastructure, H.E. Ms. Chaltu Sani, said that Ethiopia’s urbanization, one of the fastest in Africa, should be seen as a source of economic productivity and job creation.
The Minister said that the effectiveness of our cities’ responses to these challenges will determine the quality of life of millions of Ethiopians and the long-term competitiveness of our economy.
Urban Resourcing: She stated that it is about enabling cities to finance infrastructure and basic services with their own internal revenue freely.
She said that the National Property Tax Reform has established a modern property tax system as the basis for local revenue generation.
Following the example of successful cities like Addis Ababa, we aspire to create more model cities that demonstrate successful urban transformation across the African continent, the Minister said.
