H.E. Fenta Dejen, State Minister for Urban and Infrastructure Development along with H.E. Bacha Debele Buta, Ambassador Extra-ordinary and Plenipotentiary of the FDR Ethiopia to Kenya, participated at the opening of the 2nd session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), which commenced today and will continue until 6 December 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Fenta commended the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PHD) for spearheading remarkable initiatives to promote sustainable and resilient urban development in Ethiopia. He highlighted the development of urban green corridors that enhance resilient urban mobility by integrating pedestrian-friendly walkways, urban tree canopies, dedicated bike lanes, and modern road infrastructure. He also emphasized Ethiopia’s strides in advancing people-centered smart cities by leveraging digital platforms to improve service delivery and urban management.

Furthermore, H.E. Fenta expressed his gratitude to all participants of the historic First African Urban Forum, which concluded with significant outcomes addressing the challenges of urbanization across the region and beyond.

Finally, he called upon on all partners to support the implementation of the Forum’s outcomes, particularly the Addis Ababa Declaration. The declaration underscores the importance of capacity building, knowledge sharing, resource mobilization, and policy alignment as critical priorities for sustainable urban development.
