Addis Ababa, June 5/2018, (From Melmi)

The State Minister of the Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure, Hon. Yetmegeta Asrat (Dr.), under the coordination of the Federal Government Buildings Construction Project Office, visited the current status of the building construction projects of three institutions that are being constructed by local contractors.

The construction projects visited were the 23-storey building of the Ministry of Justice in Senga Tera, which is being constructed by the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation, the nine-storey Federal Courts building in Tekle Haimanot, which is being constructed by the Ethiopian Engineering Corporation, and the six-storey Civil Aviation Building in Bole Airport, which is being constructed by Santa Maria Plc.

The Honorable Minister of State toured the three construction projects and reviewed the current status. During his visit, he also discussed with the construction contractors, project consultants and project coordinators, taking into account the directions set out in the previous field monitoring and support activities. During the visit, all three entities raised issues that they considered to be better options and the support that should be provided by the government.

The Honorable Minister of State expressed his readiness to support them by identifying the best options.

Finally, he stressed that all three parties (building contractors, project consultants and project coordinators) should work together in a coordinated manner to ensure that the works are completed on time and that the institutions can move into the buildings and provide appropriate public services and save on building rental costs.

He stated that in order to complete and hand over the construction works on time, the contractors should increase the number of manpower involved in the work and that it is necessary to extend the working hours by improving the availability of resources. He emphasized that it is essential to save time as this is the end of the fiscal year and the beginning of the winter season. He also outlined future directions.
