The Rural Housing and Infrastructure Development Campaign Launched in the Rural Transformation Framework
in the Central Ethiopian Region, Hadiya Zone, Hosana Town.
The campaign platform was attended by leaders at all levels of the Ministry; heads of relevant institutions; heads of regional urban development and road sector bureaus, including the Deputy Governor of the Central Ethiopian Region, zone administrators, members of the university community, and heads of institutions.
The Minister of Urban Development and Infrastructure, Hon. Ms. Chaltu Sani, who officially launched the forum, recalled in her opening speech that housing is one of the basic human needs and that our country Ethiopia is a signatory to international human rights treaties. She stated that housing has significant economic and social benefits beyond just housing, and that the government is working diligently to improve the lives of the 76 percent of our people living in rural areas by connecting the countryside with the city through road infrastructure so that they can live in a complete and livable environment.
Explaining the purpose of the forum, he said that it is to enhance rural connectivity and accessibility in Ethiopia by linking road construction with housing provision in rural centers, strengthening coordination, and facilitating capacity building for leaders and professionals in the sector, exchanging experiences, and creating a broad movement to accelerate integrated and sustainable rural transformation by working day and night in a coordinated, fast, and innovative manner, thereby transforming the lives of rural communities to a better level. He said that the transition from agricultural transformation to rural transformation; from rural transformation to structural transformation should be carried out in a coordinated manner.
He also reminded that a comprehensive housing policy that properly addresses the issue of rural housing is being finalized.
He delivered a welcoming message; The Head of the Central Ethiopia Regional State Urban and Infrastructure Development Bureau, Honorable Ato Sintayehu W/Michael, for his part, explained the importance of the forum: – It is a platform where we can enhance our capacity by exchanging experiences, take a clear mission to implement, and change the living conditions of our society.
The movement platform included a presentation showing where rural housing development has started and where it has reached, an improved rural housing system; The experience of rural housing in the Amhara region, the experience of building model villages for farmers in the Central Ethiopian region under the initiative of the Prime Minister, and the study of bio-enzymatic construction technologies that are compatible with the environment, the relationship between rural road connectivity and housing development in rural centers for food security, and the direction of coordination were presented and discussed by leaders of universities, regions, and the Ministry, and a panel discussion and a joint discussion forum were held.
Finally, in her concluding remarks, Honorable Minister Chaltu Sani highlighted the following issues: rural centers should have a land use plan (sketch plan); that the housing development programs announced by Honorable Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) as the good news of the conference should be implemented; that it is necessary to build rural centers by expanding indigenous practices and knowledge; They have set out directions that the provision of services at one center should be strengthened and that modernizing services is the obligation of all institutions, as we are studying the government service and administration reform and are making efforts to enter the second round.
