Addis Ababa, August 23, 2018 (Kemeli) The Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure held a discussion to ensure a common understanding following the approval of the Urban Development Policy, Construction Industry Policy and Housing Development Policy.
The policies aim to see Ethiopian cities playing a leading role in national growth and prosperity by 2030, competitive, sustainable, productive and conducive to work and living.
The State Minister of the Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure, Hon. Ato Fenta Dejen, who opened the forum with a speech, said that urban growth is increasing rapidly and that with the attention and support of top-down leadership, improving and preparing policies will enable effective work.
He said that the aim of the Urban Development Policy is to modernize service delivery, make cities beautiful and clean, convenient for their residents, improve the lives of citizens and create job opportunities, as well as provide fast and accessible services.
The Executive Director of Policy and Strategy Research at the Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure, Dr. Aman Assefa, said that the new urban development policy aims to ensure that cities are planned, integrated with infrastructure, and have inclusive economic and social prosperity that ensures efficient and sustainable development.
Similarly, the Construction Industry Policy and Housing Development Policy were presented in detail and discussed extensively.
