The forum is being attended by the chairmen and members of the Standing Committee on Urban, Infrastructure and Transport Affairs of the House of People’s Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, senior leaders of the Ministry, heads of relevant institutions, heads of regional and city administrations, and stakeholders.
The Minister of Urban Development and Infrastructure, Honorable Ms. Chaltu Sani, who opened the conference with a speech, said that the role of the Ministry in realizing the vision of our country and ensuring the overall prosperity of our cities is being demonstrated in the development works carried out in the cities.
In particular, in the current ten-year development plan, great attention has been paid to making cities industrial destinations and economic centers, Honorable Minister Chaltu said.
The desire for urbanization and migration, as well as the growth of the population, are a good opportunity for those who are knowledgeable and wise, but a great danger if not managed properly. Therefore, the government has recognized this fact and is working with special attention to the growth and expansion of cities, and to the education and improvement of the lives of citizens.
The Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure Development and the relevant institutions have prepared the sector plan for the 2018 budget year based on the sector’s medium-term development and investment plan, which includes the main tasks of the sector. Following this, the relevant regional and city administrations have been working together to implement the plan in the main focus areas for the past half year. The Minister also stated that a quarterly performance report has been submitted and reviewed to ensure that the planned tasks are carried out quickly and efficiently, and that it is effective.
The sector’s plan performance report for the first half of the 2018 budget year was presented and discussed by Ato Abraham Zenebe, Executive Director of Strategic Affairs.
