Metehara (Beinuna), July 10, 2018 (Kemeli) The Ministry of Infrastructure Sector Institutions jointly reviewed their 2018 budget plan performance and 2019 budget year plans.
The institutions presented in detail the major events of the previous budget year and the main focus areas for the next budget year 2019.
The State Minister of Infrastructure Sector of the Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure, His Excellency Yetmegeta Asrat (Dr.), said that the leadership and experts should play their respective roles by further strengthening the experiences and performances obtained in the previous budget year and paying close attention to the gaps and challenges in the next year.
The Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Construction Authority, Muaz Bedru (PhD), while presenting the authority’s 2018 budget report, said that the preparation of government service delivery reform, monitoring and support of projects being built in various parts of the country, proper implementation of occupational safety, and control and evaluation works have been carried out.
The Deputy Director General stated that the Winter Volunteer Service Initiative, capacity building, digitalization, and especially the One-Stop Service and Construction Conflict Resolution Work have been implemented.
The Deputy Director General of the Construction Management Institute, Eng. Qattema Mamo, while presenting the budget report, detailed the implementation of digitalization, capacity building trainings in coordination with the Rural Roads Connectivity Project Office, the implementation of the Center of Excellence, agreements to work together with various foreign institutions and domestic organizations, technology transfer and research with various higher education institutions to replace imported products with domestic products, consulting services for various federal projects, the introduction of more than 14 standards, and the implementation of 3D printing technology.
The Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Roads Administration, Eng. Hirut Yohannes, while presenting the budget performance, said that the completion and implementation of national road projects, effective use of resources, good governance in road works, the ability to properly resolve citizens’ complaints, the establishment of a system to build the morale of the workers and management, the implementation of modern technology, capacity building training, the ability to develop research and study projects, the ability to increase road coverage, and the acceleration of project construction are the main ones.
While describing the challenges faced by the institution during the fiscal year, he said that the institution is mainly facing challenges such as the increase in fuel prices, security problems in various areas, budget shortage, road damage, border enforcement problems, payment delays, project management problems, engineering procurement problems, the increase in overloaded vehicles, landslides and machinery shortage.
Finally, after responding to the questions and comments raised by the house, the Honorable Minister of State read out the 2019 budget plan and signed it with the heads of all relevant institutions.
