4.1 Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town mainly serves as wereda administrative and commercial center. There are 47 manufacturing
industries, 436 wholesale trades, 71 retail trades and 176 service trades, one fuel station and six garages
in the town. There are five different banks that are giving services for dwellers in the town.
The average annual revenue of the municipality in 2011 was 4,907,278 Birr and the per capital revenue was 131.42 birr. The major sources of revenues were municipal service fee and sales of materials. The major investment opportunities in the town are: ripe coffee processing and milling and hotel development
Dembi Dollo town has urban-rural economic linkages with the surrounding areas, Nekemte and Addis Ababa. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood and charcoal) and labor from surrounding Sayyo, Gawo Qebbe and Dalle and manufacturing and commercial products from Addis Ababa.

Education
There are 11 privately and three government owned kindergartens; one government and four private
primary (1-4 grade) schools; five government and four private junior secondary (5-8 grade) schools; two
government and one private senior secondary (9-10 grade) schools, one government and two private
TVETs,one government and three private colleges in the town.
Health
Regarding health services in Dembi Dollo town there are one government hospital, three government
health posts, and one government health center and eight private clinics.
Municipal services
Dembi Dollo town has two public meeting halls; a general market meeting twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays, a cattle market meeting once in a week on Saturdays and three daily market located. There are three public toilets in the town, and liquid waste is collected by rented vacuum trucks from other towns and dumped in authorized open space.
There is a green area covering 10ha, one stadium and one man made swimming pool and hotels of different standards in the town. Regarding religious services, in the town there are four churches for Orthodox Christians, 14 churches for Protestants and three mosques for Muslims.
