According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the town was 37,339. Out of this 19,117 (51%) were males and 18,222(49%) were females. Regarding age distribution 14,294 (38%) were within the age group of 0-15 years, 20,702 (56%) 16-60 years, and 2,343 (6%) 61 years and above. Population growth rates at low, medium and high variants were 3.8 %, 4.8% and 5.8%, respectively, while the average household size in the town was calculated to be 5.7%.
