According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the town was 39,521. Out of these 19,437 (49%) were males and 20,084 (51.58%) were females. Regarding age distribution 15,077 (38%) were within the age group of 0-14 years, 22,254 (56.3%) 15-59 years, and 2,190 (5.5%) within the age group of 60 years and above.
