According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the town was 29,547. Out of these, 14,355 (48.58%) were males and 15,192 (51.4%) were females. Regarding age distribution 9,174 (31%) were within the age group of 0-15 years 19,196 (64.96%) 16-60 years and 1,177 (3.9%) 60 years and above. The average household size in the town is calculated to be 3.4.
