According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the town was 76,817. Out of this 39,167 (50.98%) were males and 37,650 (49.02%) were females. Regarding age distribution 12,902 (45%) were within the age group of 0-14 years 13,721 (47.8%) 15-59 years, and 2,056 (7.2%) 60 years and above. The population growths at high, medium and low variants are 4.6%, 3.75%, and 3.5% respectively. Household size in the town was calculated to be 3.47.
