The area of Nekemte town is 5,380 ha and is a linerar town. Its altitude is 2088m above sea level; mean annual temperature 140C-26ºC; mean annual rainfall is 1500-2200mm and the wind direction is from south to north in summer and autumn and south east to south in spring and south west to north in winter. The principal Natural constraints for the physical expansion of the town are flooding and landslide while the manmade constraint is conflict between rural and urban kebelles.
