According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the town was 31,823. Out of this 15,640 (49.1%) were males and 16,183 (50.85%) were females. Regarding age distribution 7,889 (25%) were within the age group of 0-14 years, 22,523 (71%) 15-59 years, and 1,411 (4%) 60 years and above. The population growth rates at low, medium and high variants were 2, 3 and 4% respectively.
