Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town serves as woreda administration and education center. There are 15 manufacturing industries, 40 wholesale trade, 470 retail trade, 212 service trade, five garage and three fuel stations in the town. The capital of theses firms was 25,090,244 ETB and they totally created job opportunity for 1666 people. There are three different financial institutions giving financial services in the town. The average annual revenue of the municipality is 1,739,323.67 Birr and the major sources of revenue were taxes, house rent, land rent, cadastre, provision for investment and constructions permits. the economic activity rate for both sex is 68.8% while unemployment rate is 13.3%. The major investment opportunities in the town are:- hotel, recreation center, lodge, warehouse etc.
 
Haromaya has economic linkages with Diredawa, Harar and Addis Ababa. The town gets grain product from surrounding rural areas. Diredawa, Harar and Addis Ababa are the major manufacturing and commercial product suppliers to the town. On the other hand; the town supplies agricultural inputs for the surrounding rural kebelles. The surrounding rural areas supply livestock and natural resources (fuel wood and charcoal) to the town. Surplus labor source are rural areas and other regions.

Education
There are five kindergartens; four private primary schools; three private and two government Junior secondary schools; one government, one private high schools and two preparatory, two TVET and one university. The student teacher ratio was known to be 1፡56 for kindergartens, 1፡50 for primary school and 1፡40 for junior secondary school, senior secondary school had 1፡40 students to teacher ratio. On the other hand; the student to class room ratio was 1፡40 for kindergartens, 1፡63 for primary school and junior secondary and 1.81 for senior secondary school.
 
Health
Regarding health services in the town, there are one health center, one government and seven private pharmacies and six private clinics.
 
Municipal services
Haromaya town has an abattoir giving slaughtering service for the community; general and cattle market meeting on Mondays and Thursdays while daily market is available every day. There is one public library in the town. Solid waste is collected using twelve horse-drawn carts and disposed in open dump site. Liquid waste is collected using private rental dump truck service while five public toilets are available in the town. There is a street green along 1km of road in the town. Regarding religious services there are two churches for orthodox Christians, six churches for Protestants, one church for seven day Adventist  and thirty two mosques for Muslims and in the town.
