4.1 Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town serves as zonal administration and trade Center. There are 38 manufacturing, six wholesales, 536 retail trades, 22 service trades, two fuel stations and one garage in the town. There are three banks and four micro financial institutions giving financial services in the town. The economic activity rate in the town for both sexes was 49.4% while the rate of unemployment was 16.2%.
The average annual revenue of the municipality within the 2008-2010 years was 3,967,931.99 Birr while per-capita revenue was 144.35 Birr and the major sources of revenue were taxes, land rents, different rents, and service charges. The major investment opportunities in the town are agro–industry processing, Construction industry, Hotel and Tourism Development.
Fiche has economic linkages with the surrounding areas, towns, region and Addis Ababa. The town gets grain products, livestock supply, natural resources (fuel wood, charcoal) and surplus labor from surrounding areas. The town gets agricultural inputs, some construction material, manufacturing and commercial products from Addis Ababa and the town itself.
