According to the National Population and Housing Census carried out in 2007, the population of the town was 27,493. Out of this, 12,933 (47%) were males and 14,560(52.95%) were females. Regarding age distribution 7,845 (28.5%) were within the age group of 0-15 years, 17,735 (64.5%) 16-60 years 1,913 (6.95%) 60 years and above. The population growth rate of the town at medium variant was 4% while the average household size in the town is calculated to be 3.6.
