Background Information 1.1 Location Halaba Kulito is located in southern part of Ethiopia in South Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State at a distance 90 Km from Hawassa the regional capital. Its astronomical location is 7.16ºC 7.33’ N & 38.04ºC 38.13’ E. The town is bordered in the North by Charko river, in North ERast Charko peasant association, in East Dileto peasant association in South Wanja peasant association in West by Hambush peasant association and in North West by Chambula peasant association. 1.2 Foundation The city was founded in 1880’s as a village and the main factor for its foundation includes its location on the Asphalt road of Addis Ababa and Shashamne, its central location to Walayita, Kambata, Hadiya and Arsie administrative areas, presence of trade and suitable land for the expansion of the town are the major ones. Halaba Kulito town has got its present name from a famous and rich person called “Kulito” who was living in this area in the 1880’s and this name continued till this date. The existing data shows that the Alaba Kulito municipality was established in 1880’s. The then Alaba Kulito village had different villages with different name such as Walayita Safar, Kambata Safar, Sidama Safar, Doro Manakiya Safar and Fando Safar are the names given to different part of the villages of the then Kulito. The town got municipal status in 1960/61. In 2002/2003 the SNNP Regional State Works and Urban Development Bureau study has classified Alaba Kulito as emerging and 4th grade town of the region and the town got a plan in 1992. Halaba Kulito is one of the reform towns in the region and has a city administration. The town has a plan prepared in 2000. |
